What is the Pt100 for Emerald, -200 to +50, and how does it work?
The probe is a Pt100, a platinum sensor whose electrical resistance changes predictably with temperature. At 0 degrees the resistance is exactly 100 ohms, and the relationship is known and stable all the way down to -200. That is why it is used where standard digital sensors are no longer specified.
The probe connects to the Emerald, which stays outside the cold space while the measuring element itself sits inside it. The probe and the Emerald are calibrated as one unit, so accuracy can be documented for the entire measurement chain.

The product in use
The probe is lowered into the vapour phase above the liquid in a nitrogen tank, or into a cryo freezer through the access port.
The Emerald sits outside and is read with a phone, or sends data on to the system when it is within range.

Frequently asked questions
Why Pt100 and not a standard sensor?
Standard digital sensors are typically only specified down to around -40 degrees and drift below that. Pt100 has a known uncertainty across the whole range.
Can the probe be used with other units?
This version is for Emerald. For the data loggers, the Pt100 Smart-Sensor is available in two measuring ranges.
How often does it need calibrating?
You define the interval yourselves based on your SOPs, typically every 12 months. The system shows what is due for calibration.
