Sensors

Emerald, external sensor

The same unit with an external probe

Emerald with an external sensor connected. Used where the temperature is lower than the internal sensor can measure, or where the measuring point itself is hard to reach.

DICKSON Emerald, external sensor

What is Emerald, external sensor, and how does it work?

The unit is the same as Emerald with an internal sensor. The difference is that the measuring element sits at the end of a probe rather than inside the housing. This means the unit itself can sit outside the cold space while the probe measures inside it.

With a Pt100 probe, the range extends all the way down to -200 degrees, which makes this variant relevant for cryo shipments, liquid nitrogen tanks and ULT freezers.

The product in use

The external variant is used where the unit cannot tolerate being in the cold, or where the measuring point is inside something that is closed.

The probe is fed in, and the unit stays where it can be read.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the two Emerald variants?

The measuring element. The internal one measures inside the housing itself, the external one measures at the end of a probe and can therefore reach lower temperatures.

Which probe should we use?

For cryo and liquid nitrogen, the Pt100 rated to -200 degrees is used. We recommend the right one based on your measuring range.

Can it be calibrated?

Yes. Emerald and the probe are calibrated as one unit and can be swapped for a freshly calibrated one, so you avoid gaps in the curve.
