Universal Smart-Sensor

Reads third-party equipment

Translates an analogue signal from third-party equipment into a measurement in OCEAView. Used for particle counters, oxygen monitors, cooling systems and cell production equipment.

DICKSON Universal Smart-Sensor

What is the Universal Smart-Sensor, and how does it work?

Most laboratory and process instruments can output an analogue signal that represents their measured value. The Universal Smart-Sensor reads that signal and turns it into a measuring point on a par with temperature and humidity, with its own limits, its own delay and its own place in the report.

It supports 4-20 mA, 0-5 V and 0-10 V. The advantage of 4-20 mA is that 4 milliamps corresponds to the bottom of the measuring range and 20 to the top. If the signal drops to 0, it means a broken cable rather than a low reading, so a lost connection can be told apart from a genuine drop.

The product in use

The sensor connects directly to the equipment's analogue output. The equipment does not need to be on the network itself, because the signal is passed on via the data logger.

The third-party equipment then sits in the same dashboard as everything else and triggers the same escalation on deviation.

How to get it

We do not sell individual parts over the counter. We put the setup together based on what we see at your site and take care of the rest.

01

Request a quote

Tell us what you want to monitor. We will come back with questions or a proposal.

02

Walkthrough

We visit, look at your equipment and premises and advise on the number and placement of sensors.

03

Installation

We install, set up limits and on-call rotas and train your staff on the system.

04

Operation and calibration

We look after it afterwards. Calibration on time and sensor exchange without downtime.

05

Validation

We validate the system, on our own or together with your QA, and deliver the documentation.

Frequently asked questions

How do we know whether our equipment can be connected?

It is in the data sheet under outputs. If it can send 4-20 mA, 0-5 V or 0-10 V, it can be read. We check this during the walkthrough.

Does it replace the equipment's own alarm?

No. That stays in place. The system makes sure the alarm also reaches people outside the room and that the readings are stored.

Can we see it in the same graph as the temperature?

Yes. It is treated like any other measuring point.
