Monitoring of blood components
Blood, plasma and platelets are stored in three different temperature windows, and none of them can tolerate drift. We set up wireless monitoring that measures around the clock, alerts in time and delivers the documentation afterwards.
What temperature requirements apply in a blood bank?
Whole blood and red cells are stored chilled, plasma deep-frozen and platelets at room temperature under constant agitation. Three windows, three types of equipment and three sets of alarm limits. A monitoring system measures all three around the clock, alerts on deviation and stores every measurement in a log that cannot be altered.
The exact limits are set according to your own SOPs. We enter your parameters when we set up the system.
What we monitor in the blood bank
Blood refrigerators
Refrigerators for whole blood and red cells. Door alarm via dry contact cable, so you can see whether a deviation is caused by an open door.
Emerald + dry contact to Cobalt X2Plasma freezers
Deep-freeze for plasma. A Pt100 sensor handles the low range reliably over time.
Emerald + Pt100Platelet cabinets
Room temperature with agitation. Both temperature and room conditions are logged.
Emerald + dry contact to Cobalt X2Cold rooms
Large rooms with several measuring points. Typically require mapping first.
Several loggers + mappingTransport and delivery
Cool bags and boxes between departments and hospitals.
Emerald wireless sensorEmergency power and technical systems
UPS, cooling plant and ventilation via dry contact or 4-20 mA.
Universal Smart-SensorWireless all the way
No cables through walls. No devices on the hospital network, unless you want them there.
Bluetooth
Sensor to data logger
Used for the sensing itself. Emerald is a Bluetooth sensor that sits inside the cabinet or cool bag and transmits to the data logger without a cable. It is easy to install.
LoRaWAN
Data logger to gateway
From here the signal goes on to the gateway. One gateway handles approx. 50 data loggers and 100 to 200 sensors.
Range
15 km in open air
In a hospital it is closer to 1 to 2 km, and considerably less in basements. We measure on site before we place the gateway.
The alarm goes off while there is still time
Via OCEAlert, the relevant staff are notified by phone call, text message or email. If they do not respond, it moves on down the on-call rota until someone acknowledges.

All measuring points on one screen
Every sensor with current value, status and timestamp. A green frame means normal, red means deviation.

The limits are drawn into the graph
Yellow lines are warnings, red are alarms. Min, max and average are calculated automatically for the period.

Three levels up and three down
Each limit can have its own delay, so an open door does not trigger an alarm straight away.
Odense University Hospital
Odense University Hospital uses wireless monitoring from Djurhuus IT with alerting and escalation around the clock. Read how the solution is set up and what it means day to day.

Frequently asked questions
Are FMS and EMS the same?
Yes. Facility Monitoring System and Environmental Monitoring System cover the same thing. The only difference is which term the industry uses.
Do you carry out the accredited calibration yourselves?
No. It is carried out by accredited partners, DFM and Dickson. We handle planning, sensor exchange, certificates and making sure intervals are kept.
Who carries out the validation?
We do, in close collaboration with you. Together we define the scope, after which we carry out the validation and deliver the necessary documentation.
Can we get an alarm on door opening and not just on temperature?
Yes. A dry contact cable on Cobalt X registers whether the door is open, so you can see the cause of the deviation straight away.
What happens if the gateway loses its connection?
The data logger stores the measurements locally and synchronises when the connection is back. There is no gap in the curve.
Can the system be connected to our BMS?
No. LoRa Alert Relay is a wireless dry contact relay that can trigger a single device, typically a siren or lamp you already have. It is not connected to an alarm system. Alerting to people goes through OCEAlert.
Certifications and standards
The equipment is manufactured and calibrated to recognised standards. The certificates are held by DICKSON and can be requested.
ISO/IEC 17025
Accredited calibration. Traceable certificates for every single sensor.
ISO 9001
Quality management at the manufacturer.
CE, FCC and IC
The devices are approved for use in the EU and North America.
21 CFR Part 11
Electronic records and signatures are supported in OCEAView.

The hardware is DICKSON's. The software is DICKSON's. Everything between the equipment and your day-to-day work is ours. And once the system is complete, it is yours. You buy it, you own it, and no leasing agreement decides when you can switch, expand or stop. We handle the maintenance, so it keeps running.
OCEAView
The whole setup on one screen. Watch mode gives a combined status overview of the equipment you have access to, with up to 100 units per page, and each graph can be zoomed down to the individual minute. Plan View also places the points on your own floor plan, so the person on call can see which room it concerns.

Audit trail that cannot be altered
Every measurement, alarm and acknowledgement with timestamp and user. That is what an auditor asks for.
Report in one click
Choose a period and pull the report as PDF or CSV. Ready before anyone asks.
Cloud or your own servers
On-premises runs at your site with LDAP, and you control updates yourselves, so the qualification holds.
DICKSON
The manufacturer
Builds data loggers, sensors and OCEAView. French and American production, its own accredited calibration laboratories and CE, FCC and IC approved equipment.
Djurhuus IT
Distributor since 2018
We advise on placement, design the setup, install, set up alarms and on-call rotas, train your staff on the system and manage calibration afterwards.
You
Owner of the system
The system is yours. You set limits, response times and requirements according to your own SOPs. We supply the system and the documentation, handle the validation, on our own or in close collaboration with you, and maintain it afterwards.
